Public Health Programs at CPH

Departments throughout the College offer opportunities to study public health in an interdisciplinary environment. Students gain the skills and knowledge required to pursue a variety of public health careers globally and locally.

Health Services Research, PhD

This multidisciplinary doctoral program focuses on analytical and data-driven methods for examination of the social, political, economic and technological forces that affect the organization, financing, delivery and regulation of health care services and public health systems. The Health Services Research PhD offers two concentrations:

  • Health Systems and Policy
  • Knowledge Discovery and Health Informatics 

Public Health, PhD

The PhD in Public Health prepares graduates to think critically as public health scientists, develop subject matter expertise and analytical skills to become successful independent researchers, and respond to the most pressing public health challenges facing Virginia, the nation, and the world. The PhD in Public Health offers two concentrations:

  • Epidemiology
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences
     

Master of Public Health (MPH)

The Master of Public Health (MPH) is a widely recognized professional degree for those wishing to enter or advance in the field of public health. Our program prepares students with the foundational public health knowledge and competencies to address the most pressing and emerging health problems with advanced training in one of several concentrations, including: 

  • Community Health Promotion 
  • Epidemiology 
  • Food Security and Nutrition 
  • Global Health 
  • Health Equity and Social Justice 
  • Health Policy  

MS, Global Health

The MS in Global Health is an academic degree that prepares students to conduct multidisciplinary research on health issues of global importance. Students complete coursework on in global health, epidemiology, biostatistics, and research methods. 

BS, Community Health

The BS, Community Health program teaches students the competencies and skills necessary to develop, apply, and evaluate evidenced-based approaches to improving public health. Students explore all aspects of public health, including community health, global health, health education, health promotion, advocacy, program planning, and epidemiology. 

Accelerated Bachelor's to Master's Programs - Bachelor's Degree (any) / Public Health, Accelerated MPH 

Public Health Certificate

The Public Health Graduate Certificate allows students to take public health coursework on topics of interest without committing to a full degree program. The Public Health Certificate offers two concentrations:

  • Generalist
  • Leadership and Management.
