Biography

Barbara Downes is an epidemiologist with expertise in public health and communicable diseases. She is passionate about making a difference in the nation’s health by implementing an open dialogue, fostering relationships, enhancing collaborations, and making data driven decisions. Barbara is the Communicable Disease Epidemiology Manager at the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) in Fairfax, VA.  She has years of experience investigating and coordinating response to reportable diseases and outbreaks. Prior to joining FCHD in 2015, she worked as the District Epidemiologist at the Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH). Barbara earned a Master of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from George Mason University and Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Tech.
