Kristen Vlaun

Kristen Vlaun is a Certified Health Educator with over 25 years of experience in community and public health, serving in academia, with non-profit organizations and international non-governmental organizations.

Kristen is presently an Adjunct Professor at George Mason University, teaching courses in public health, writing and leadership. She previously taught at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

Kristen was the first Executive Director of the Sadler Health Center Corporation in Carlisle Pennsylvania, where she started a small clinic and transformed it into a multi-million dollar Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) for under and uninsured members of the community seeking the full suite of medical, dental and health education services. She has also served as a community health education specialist with the South East Alaskan Health Consortium (SEARHC), bringing cardiovascular health education services to women in remote Alaskan villages. Kristen’s broad experience also includes program management with the American Lung Association in Seattle Washington, the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C., with a Mayoral task force in the City of Astoria, Oregon and on Governor Locke’s Tobacco Cessation Advisory Group in Washington State. She is currently on Advisory Board for Healthy Women, Healthy Liberia, a Non Government Organization providing women’s health care in West Africa.

Kristen is holds a bachelor of science from Radford University and a Masters in Public Health from University of Washington. Kristen was awarded the 2010 State of Oregon Governor’s Award for Physical Fitness Leadership. She is an avid competitive triathlete and Master’s swimmer.

Kristen is married to Mark Vlaun, a United States Coast Guard Officer and has two children, Brooke and Anderson.
